HICKEY - "There's The Right Way, And There's The Hickey Way" 3xLP
Three live recordings from San Francisco's HICKEY. "The Tabasco Incident" (also known simply as "The Hap's Show" or something similar) recorded in 1994 captures the band in their infancy - irreverent, drunk, combative....just three brilliant dicks pointing a mirror at the crowd and dishing out would-be classics to a smattering of humans who could really have given a fuck less. This recording has made the rounds for almost 30 years (and is hosted at mattyluv.com) but gets the vinyl treatment for the first (and likely only) time here. The other two albums were recorded on the Doom Drive '95 tour and have only been heard by a select few devotees until now. "Mobile Home, Alabama" is the perfect presentation of a shit-hot tour-tight band firing on all cylinders and berating an audience that numbered in the single digits. The band was paid $5.00 for their performance that night, and had their tires slashed. "WFMU" might be the best document in the set - with no audience to riff of, HICKEY rip through their set with limited interruptions and only occasional pleas to the radio audience for gigs to fill holes in the schedule or perhaps a place to sleep for the night. They never did get that place to sleep, so they stayed in the parking lot...and the next morning while Aesop was outside having a smoke and a piss, security snapped at him "Hey - you can't sell your oranges here!!"
